RECIPE: Christmas drinks - 'this is the time to be extra'

Christmas is not a time to be subtle - especially where cocktails are concerned.

At this time of the year, your go-to drinks should be exactly the opposite to the kind of people you might want to invite round to your house to enjoy them. So… without anymore ado, here are some of the most brash, loud and tasteless tipples that you might want to concoct this festive season.

White Christmas mojito

Ingredients:

  • juice of 1 lime
  • 8 leaves mint
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white rum
  • 1 tablespoon coconut rum
  • dash of canned coconut milk
  • sparkling water
  • pomegranate

Method:

In a glass, muddle the lime juice, sugar and mint leaves. Fill the glass half way with ice. In a blender, combine the white rum, coconut rum, and coconut milk and pulse until smooth. Pour over the ice and stir to combine. Top with sparkling water, mint and pomegranate. Bish!

Poinsettia Spritz Punch

Ingredients:

  • splash of vodka
  • cranberry juice or pomegranate juice
  • 2 ounces elderflower liquor
  • A splash of champagne
  • fresh cranberries

Method:

In a large pitcher, combine the vodka, cranberry juice and elderflower liquor. Chill until ready to serve.

When ready to serve, add the champagne and cranberries. Pour among glasses and garnish with rosemary and orange zest. Bosh!

The North Pole

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces vodka
  • 2 ounces Kahlúa or more to taste
  • 4 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 teaspoons molasses
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginger
  • whipped cream, candy canes and gingerbread cookies

Method:

In a cocktail shaker combine the vodka, Kahlúa, chocolate syrup, vanilla, molasses, and ginger. Shake until well combined. Add ice and shake again. Strain into 4 glasses. Dollop with whipped cream. Bash!
