Arts & Culture

Pegasus is one of the South East region’s leading youth arts organisations. Not only is it a professional receiving and producing theatre, it is a hub for creative activities for young people, running 43 simultaneous projects with more than 500 young people.

In January there will be a Registration Evening for young people to sign up for new weekly courses starting in April 2016. Many of these courses lead to a production on the professional stage either as a performer or through technical and design work backstage and stage management on performance nights.

There are twenty new courses running from April alongside longer term projects that have been progress since September. The majority of the new courses are focusing on a platform showcase creating short pieces of between ten and fifteen minutes, inspired by the theme ‘Being Me’.

Working with professional teams, young people will explore what contributes to a society being happy and healthy. Together they will share and shape their ideas to make a unique performance for family and friends.

The Registration Evening is an opportunity for young people and their families to find out more about each course, meet pegasus2thetutors and see the spaces where they will be working.

Pegasus has been working with young people since 1968. The theatre annually works with around 1500 young people in more than 100 programmes at the venue and in outreach projects in Oxford city and around the county.

Pegasus is a theatre with young people at its heart. In everything it does, Pegasus considers how to attract, engage and spark the imaginations of young people including families with young children, schools, teenagers and students. Yet the work has a wider, crossover appeal, so that people of different ages can experience together art that is vibrant, inspiring, urgent and exciting. Pegasus is a meeting place between generations, cultures, artists and participants, a place of creative exchange and community.Beyond the venue, Pegasus is an organisation with a strong, positive identity, good working relationships with a range of partners and an excellent track record of artistic, youth and community development.

Pegasus’ professional performance programme showcases exciting local, national and international artists and companies within its intimate, flexible and accessible 133 seat auditorium – the Pullman Stage. The focus of the artistic programme is on inspirational drama, dance and music - a combination of produced, co-produced and touring / visiting companies - work that is urgent, contemporary and playful.
