Classic Ibiza returned for one night only

Classic Ibiza made its return to Bowood House on Friday 23 July despite Saturday’s storm-risk cancellation.

Friday’s show started with Classic Ibiza and former Pacha and Ministry of Sound DJ, Jose Luis. His set of Latin-infused, old-school house transported the crowd to one of the White Isle’s famed chill-out bars.

The Urban Soul Orchestra (USO), accompanied by Goldierocks on the decks, then took to the stage for the “Sundowner Set.” The crowd were treated to house tunes, including Belfast by Orbital, Killer by Adamski and Seal, For An Angel by Paul van Dyke, Something Good by Utah Saints, and Sunchyme by Dario G.

USO then took a short break, leaving the stage to Goldierocks for her “House DJ Set.” With glow-sticks at the ready, the crowd threw their hands in the air to her set of club anthems.

As night fell, USO returned to the stage for the “Dance Set” and the grounds of Bowood House turned into an alfresco nightclub. Accompanied by a laser and light show, the evening reached its crescendo to a set including the tracks, 3 AM Eternal by The KLF, Lola’s Theme by The Shapeshifters, Ride on Time by Black Box and Professional Widow by Tori Amos and Armand Van Helden.

USO then returned to the stage for an encore of two Classic Ibiza all-time favourites, Insomnia by Faithless and Sandstorm by Darude.

Classic Ibiza’s Lisa Ward said: “I can’t describe how amazing it was to be back at Bowood. A massive thank you to our fantastic audience, who fully embraced the measures we had in place, as well as everyone on stage and behind the scenes for making this happen. It certainly felt like we brought a taste of the White Isle to Wiltshire on Friday!”

Classic Ibiza also partnered with local charity Wiltshire Sight. Various fund and profile-raising initiatives took place at the concert, including a £1 donation from every set-list lanyard sold.

Saturday’s events were cancelled due to warnings of heavy rain and lightning issued by the Met Office. Revival Productions, who organise the show, had been in close consultation with the Met Office all week to monitor the situation. Following a meeting with them at 1pm on Friday, the decision was made to cancel the show to safeguard the audience, performers and crew.

Lisa Ward added: “Making the decision to cancel our sold-out show on Saturday at Bowood was the right thing to do, but that didn’t make it any easier. I want to say sorry to our amazing audience who were unable to transfer their tickets to Friday and hope they understand. The reality is that we have a lot of electrical equipment on site, which is unsafe for the crowd, performers and crew if there’s a risk of lightning. We had no choice but to act when we did on the information provided by the Met Office.

“Due to high audience demand to roll-over their tickets to 2022, we will be looking at the process early this week and will let everyone know how it will work if that’s what they want to do. We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again next summer when we’ll be back even stronger.”
